Light to Medium Towing in Kalamazoo, MI

Cars, crossovers, pickups, minivans and work vans, moved on the right equipment for each one.

Most of the vehicles we move in Kalamazoo are the ones you see in every driveway: sedans, crossovers, half-ton pickups, minivans and the cargo vans that contractors and delivery drivers rely on. Our light and medium-duty fleet covers all of them. The skill is in matching the truck to the vehicle, so it arrives at its destination in the same condition it left.

Flatbed or wheel-lift?

We use two main types of truck for this class of vehicle, and we pick based on what you drive and why it needs moving.

Flatbed (rollback) trucks carry the whole vehicle on a tilting steel deck, with all four wheels off the road. That's the safer choice for all-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles, low sports cars, electric vehicles, and anything with drivetrain or wheel damage. It's also what we use for longer runs, such as a car headed from Kalamazoo to a dealer in Grand Rapids or Battle Creek.

Wheel-lift trucks raise one end of the vehicle by its tires and tow it on the other two wheels. They're nimble in tight spots: parking garages near downtown, narrow alleys in the Vine and Stuart neighborhoods, or a car nosed into a snowbank on a side street. For a front-wheel-drive car with a simple problem, a wheel-lift tow is quick and gentle.

Vehicles we move every week

  • Sedans, hatchbacks and coupes
  • Crossovers and SUVs, including all-wheel drive
  • Half-ton and three-quarter-ton pickups
  • Minivans and passenger vans
  • Cargo and work vans, including high-roof models
  • Electric and hybrid vehicles, which always go on a flatbed

Bigger than that? At Towing Kalamazoo, box trucks, buses, RVs and semis are handled by our heavy-duty towing crew.

Not just breakdowns

Plenty of light-duty tows have nothing to do with an emergency. We regularly move:

  • Project cars and vehicles that haven't run in years
  • Cars bought from a private seller that aren't plated yet
  • Vehicles headed to a body shop after an insurance estimate
  • Student cars stuck near the WMU or Kalamazoo College campuses at the end of a semester
  • Vehicles going to a scrap yard or a donation program

For a planned move, call ahead and we'll book a time that works for you.

Light to Medium Towing questions

Is a flatbed better for my all-wheel-drive car?

Usually, yes. Towing an all-wheel-drive vehicle with two wheels on the ground can strain the drivetrain, so we put AWD and 4x4 vehicles on a flatbed unless there's a specific reason not to.

Can you tow a car that has no keys?

Often, yes. A flatbed can winch a locked car aboard. Tell us it has no keys when you call so we bring the right equipment, and be ready to show proof that the vehicle is yours.

Do you do long-distance tows?

We do. Tell us the destination when you call and we'll arrange a time and a flatbed for the trip.
